Assingment#8- Redo-Get on Your Belly
I improved much on this assignment from my previous attempt. The first time that I did this assignment, for some of my pictures it was not obvious that they were taken on my belly. In my pictures in this assignment the only way you can even come close to getting this view is on your belly. Especially after the redo, I really like the assignment. It has helped me expand my ideas of perspective for taken photos. There is also one HUGE thing that I learned about this assignment, composition. Composition is key.
I personally really like this picture. This pic was inspired my last get on your belly assignment. The other picture had the same type of perspective, but the picture was of a golf flag. I REALLY thought that picture was cool. So, I wanted to use the same perspective with different ideas. I succeeded portraying that perspective again with this picture of the end of a tennis net. I also really like the contrast of the black pole to the bright sky.
I doubt that this is a commonly taken picture, that is exactly why I took it! This must be the perspective of a young child, toddler, or baby. The kid is crawling around and they come upon this new majestic thing that is sticking out of the wall. They don't care what its use is, they only know that is has great contrast and beautiful lighting when it is taken in black and white.
For this, I have a story. Imagine a bug, lets say a box elder bug. It has been trapped in this horrifying house and it is trying to get out. On the left it sees darkness, that is what it will be led to if it does not get out. The sole of a pair of Nike's. But, on the right is the bright heavenly bug paradise which is the outdoors. How shall it get out, will the poor defenseless bug survive the bug project of Jay T Anderson?... Probably not.
I think this picture is just sweet. Some kid laying on his back, enjoying the STUNNING reflections of the Great Salt Lake. I like how my legs are seen in the foreground. It gives it the "on your back" or "lounging" fill. What makes this picture work is the cool reflection and the delicious light. I try to find great light for your photographs. I believe that if a photo does not have sweet light....... IT STINKS, most of the time.
Many people may have taken pictures of trains. But here is the real question. How many people have taken pictures of a train that was taken on their belly AND has sweet light. Hmm... I heard no responses. This picture is awesome. The sweet light lets you see many different shades of black for black black, to nearing on gray. It is amazing what sweet light can do.
The boulevard of broken dreams. Not exactly but, look! This is really cool. The lines on the road leading out into never land where the contrast creating snow capped mountains reside! There also is no car insight, no car insight on the causeway. I am alone. Or not, what is that creepy shadow behind me. Is someone creeping up on me AHHHHH! Well, that sums up how much I enjoy this picture. It is a simple idea with a greater meaning.
This picture is really cool. I like this one because I have not seen this picture before. It it not very often that a person looks at a tennis net from this angle. The coolest part of this picture is how in the foreground, you can distinctly see then "squares" in the net. But as you look into the background of the the net starts to become solid black. I like this perspective of the net... a lot.
I really do like this picture. Instead of focusing on the putter and ball, I decided to focus on the shoe. The best part is the I was able to get the shoe into perfect focus. I was also able to get most of the shoe in focus. I really like this picture for it is different. Most people would not even consider focusing on the shoe and focus on the ball.(Same thing happened to me until I had a revelation to focus on the shoe. The black shoe just looks so cool. It is easy the see all of the different shades of black on the shoe
Shiny new driver. Love it. What is much better then a shiny new driver being hit for the first time? I was able to include much more in this photo than the driver and ball. Check out the background. Notice the golf clubs in the distance. This is all the I would like to accomplish on a ant's eye view golf picture.
This picture is my favorite of the assignment. Number one reason, check out all of the detail. Much of the foreground of the picture is in focus, so their is no guessing what this picture is of. Secondly, I like the light that reflects off of the bike. None of it is completely blown out so their is detail still seen. Next, the shoe. Isn't that biking shoe just completely utterly awesome!

Assingment #7-Numbers

Blackjack! Number 21. I like the simplicity of this picture. I also like the creativity. In a couple of my pictures I didn't just automatically give the number. You have to think to figure out what the number is. I also like the composition of this picture. You see just enough of the hand to understand the person is holding a blackjack. That is all you need to see. I also like the focus in this picture. The cards are in near perfect focus. I really like the contrast on the jack. I like this picture. It is simple but cool.

Simply 91. A few bananas, simple, yet neat. I really like the shadows in this picture. They help create some nice contrast contrasting with the tile. Myself, I really like shadows. Shadows really add a lot to pictures, especially contrast. I aslo really like the creative aspect of this picture. I mean honestly. Who else would use bananas to make the number 91?

D-Will, 8. Its Deron Williams baby. I was suprised that not many other people took pictures of jerseys, I guess I just think diferently than others. I really like the light in this picture. I creates some nice contrast and shadows. This is part of my life, the Utah Jazz. This helps portray that with my Deron Williams Jersey. Without this jersey, I would not be able to live.

Numba one. OH yeah. There are two differnt ways you could see a one in this picture. There is a one on the golf ball, and the golf ball and box put togehter make a one. However you want it, it is a one. I really like the black background in this picture and the crisp focus. The black background contrasts nicely with the white ball. Overall, I really like this picture. It looks like it could be an advertisement for Callaway golf balls.

Yum. Whipped cream, gotta love it. When I was beginning to run out of ideas during this asssingment, magic happened. I started to think of ideas that I never would have thought of, such as this one. My personal taste sometimes involves a lot of contrast. Contrast makes the picture look lucious. In this case, the picture literally is lucious because it tastes good too. Yes! I successfully made two pictures with one print!

This is my favorite picture from this assingmnet. Starting off, I really like the background. It does not distract from the picture yet it is really "calming". It makes you want to fly away to scrabble island. Hurray! It is in perfect focus! This picture also has a cool shadow, hurray for shadows. The refection of the scrabble pices in the glass is sweetly awesome. The scrabble pieces almost lool like they are floating! THIS IS AWESOME!

16 pieces of candy, sweet, literally. The light is this picture is gorgeous. Without the lighting this pic would not be as cool as it is, and this is quite a cool picture. The lighting creates some nice whties and some blacks, sweet. I really like this pciture. The colors in it just look gorgeous. I will come back to this secret location many times to find this sweet light.

I like this picture because it is different. Some other people took pictures of locks, but not in the way I did. The arrows on the locks are pointing to the 8 and 1 one respectively. The reflections on the door handle are very cool. I always like som nice reflections. The white background also is very simple and does not take away from the picture at all.

After spending too much time on the first several numbers of this assingment, I had a revelation, I am taking this assingment too seriously. So then i grew some brains and became practical. I thought up the idea to take pictures of golf clubs. Even though this picture appears as a little bit dark, I still like it. The reflections on the golf club really make up for the darkness. It helps create some nice contrast. The pciture also tells a story of the golf clubs, the old trusty one(4) and the new shiny one(9). Which one do I like more, the new one! Who doesn't love shiny golf clubs.

I like this new perspective of the golf clubs. They are leaning up against the bag, I am trying to decide which one to use for my next shot. Ill use the 5 iron, not the 6, nevermind, actually, I AM using the six iron. That is the story of golf. I also really like the texture of the golf bag. It helps add a really nice and simple background to the shiny golf clubs.

Assingment #6- Portraits
When I learned we were shooting portraits, I thought to myself, "CRAP". I do.not.like.portraits. My stance on that has been completely changed. I realized that portraits do not have to be a fixed awkward picture, they can be a naturally formed picture and the subject doesn't have to knoe your taking it. Doing fixed portraits often creates a fake personality. I don't like that. I learned how to make people look as they really are. But, I really liked the self portraits. I liked trying to be another character. I was able to come up with some sweet ideas such as the modern day investor. Ok, I am going to admit it. I. really. like. portraits.

No pictures please. SERIOUSLY. NO. PICTURES. In this pic I was trying to be an unfortunate tennis player who lost a match at the U.S. Open. Yes, I lost, unfortunately. I am walking through the press room, putting my hand out so no one can take a picture of me. That obviously didn't work. I really like this picture. I really like the contrast in the picture but I also REALLY like the story it tells. The picture looks fantastic against the solid black background. Me gusta this picture.
This is the investor of the recent reccesion, suprised, depressed, angry. I tried to show the pain that many people involved with the stock market are going though. The cool blurry streaks in the air are newspapers. I, the stockbroker, have gotten so angry that I have ripped a copy of the wallsreet journal up and I threw it into the air. I love the story behind this one. The darkness and black background also help add to the themes of the picture, anger and astonishment.
In the pictures I took of other people, I did not tell them I was going to take a portait of them, such as in this picture. I really like how natural and soft the portait looks. The light is sweeeeet. But, this picture tells about this little boy, my cousin. Here he is getting ready for an easter egg hunt. He is waiting, waiting, waiting. CAN WE START ALREADY! He is swinging his bucket in anticipation. This picture may not describe him individually as much, but it relates to a larger idea: childhood. This is a perfect description of childhood. I makes you remember back when you wated to go hunt Easter eggs. It makes you remember back to when you woke up at five in the morning on Christmas day saying, "Is is time yet???" It makes you remember back to when you couldn't wait to go trick or treating on halloween, trading candy afterwards (actually, who still doesn't do that?).
Also, in this picture, my grandma did not know it was being taken. This is my grandma, the EXCELLENT cook. She is seen here cutting her delicious, i mean DELICIOUS strawberry pie. She makes one of the best strawberry pies around. I like how her face and body are in focus but her hands are blurred, for she has busy hands. I also like how the picuture does not look fixed. It looks natural. It does not look entirely set up.
Again, like my first picture I have lost a tennis match in the U.S. Open. As expected I am very angry. I really like this picture, it really shows what happens when one loses a match. In this, I have thown my towel on the ground, the look on my face screams dissapointment. The blur and track of my arm and the towel is very cool. My bag and most of me is also in focus, which I also really like. Whith these portraits I like blurring part of a picture to help illustrate a story.
Awwwww, cute little baby. BUT, this is not just a cute baby! It is a cute baby with a story!!! This cute baby is holding a blanket. Clara does not go anywhere without her blanket. Anywhere. Before the picture was taken, she was crying, for the sudden rush of many people towards her to great her nearly scared her to death. But then, Sir Blankey came to the rescue!!! She now is becoming less uneasy, although she is still undecided if she is liking all of this attention.
Like many of my other portraits, I like how casual this one is. It was not staged, and not fixed it shows a true story. My younger cousin had been begging my older cousin for a piggy back ride for a while. She finally got her opportunity, but she looks dissapointed. She realized that this piggy back ride wasn't going to be so great after all. It is just an often form of dissapointment that we have to learn to deal with every day. Things that to not live up to the hype, but my little cousin didn't care, she continued on smiling about the day. People need to learn to meet dissapointment with a better attitude.
Yes, this is me, but it is not me. I am a wealthy stockbroker. But, as you can read it says on the paper. "Pay falls again." Which is representing the modern stockbroker today in the recession. You also can see by the expression on my face that I am depressed and sad. I really like the story in this picture. It represents the stress that many people have in these tough times. Getting to the technical part. I really like the contrast from black to white. I also like how I am in focus and the paper is in enough focus that you can read it. I LOVE THIS PICTURE!

Yes, my grandpa. This is the time that you can definately see my grandpa at a family party, when he is cooking the turkey. But, after that, he will generally go into his room and watch TV. Good 'ol grandpa. Also, if I asked him if I could take a picture of him, he would not want his picture taken. So, i sleathily... CLICK. Sweet. Natural picture! This picture wonderfully helps portray my grandfather.

The big monsterous truck. Yes, my uncle owns this truck. I took this picture of his as he was getting into his truck. I told him to turn his head and.. BAM. Neat pic. Nice contrast, good compostion, and always, a story! My uncle loves trucks. Infact, he owns a company which tricks out anf does cool stuff to trucks. This picture helps portray that. Him, standing with his ENORMOUS truck. What a good way to naturally show one of the main focuses of his life.
